Rusland Valley Horticultural Society (RVHS)

The Rusland Valley Horticultural Society Show is held on the third Saturday in August in Whitestock Meadow. It began in 1871 when a group of six farmers and gardeners came up with the idea of holding a small flower show and plant sale. Nearly 140 years on and this traditional Lakeland Show, offers a warm welcome with a good hearted crowd, a fine display of talent, plenty of entertainment and competitions galore but the show is much more than that......  Read Jeanie Wilkinson's article on the History of the Rusland Show.

On December 23rd 2010, the Rusland Showfield came up for auction following the sad death of Mr Joe Jackson of High Ickenthwaite Farm. The RVHS, together with the Rusland Valley Community Trust and interest-free loans from individual Committee members, was successful in bidding for the field. A great tribute to a local community that pulls together to secure the future of such a wonderful tradition.
